A Place to Rest

Walking through my hometown in Akron, Ohio, I came across Schneider Park.

It was the place where I had countless soccer games growing up. I can remember baseball practices, playing with the dogs, and touch football games in this beautiful park.

A couple years ago, students at The University of Akron discovered that the park used to house an infirmary for the mentally ill and a poorhouse for the impoverished.

Worse yet, the park that I had loved as a child was above a mass unmarked graveyard.

Walking around the park, I realize how thankful I am for the memories I cultivated here and I promise myself to remember its history, especially that of those we had been laid here and forgotten.

I hope that they are resting well, and in a better place.
